Class Syllabus:
The goal of this class is to develop your English language skills, both written and oral. Learning any language requires practice. We will practice English grammar using diverse methods each class. We will become a community of language learners who support each other. Mistakes are how we learn!
“How do I get out of this class?” To drop Accelerated English (aka ELD), you must be reclassified as fluent in English. There are many factors that affect this process:
Success depends on your ability to: · Respect, support, and value your peers. · Come to class prepared and ready to actively engage. · Be open-minded and honest. Devices welcome! Cell phones, iPads, tablets, and laptops are increasingly important modes of communication. Students are encouraged to bring their devices if they have them. · All devices must be in silent mode and screen down on the desk. · Please note: the security of your device is your responsibility. Grading: Your grade will be based on total points not percentages. Active participation in English is a vital part of your grade. · Quizzes/oral presentations: If you miss a quiz, the next one counts double. No make up quizzes. · Tests: If miss a test, you’re responsible for taking it the day you return. Materials: Silent sustained reading (SSR) book, notebook, pens (blue or black ink) or pencils with erasers, highlighter(s). |
